Try stretching a rubber band beyond a point and it's bound to snap. Try stretching a waferthin story and it's bound to blow apart too. That's precisely the problem with LOVE KHICHDI. Frankly, LOVE KHICHDI is a collage of romantic moments assembled by director Srinivas Bhashyam. LOVE KHICHDI looks at the various women who flit in and out of the protagonist's life. It's a metro-centric concept that could've worked well if [a] the assorted women wouldn't appear and disappear randomly and [b] the narrative had been limited to 1.30 hours, instead of 2 + hours.
These two factors make this khichdi far from appetising.

It's really unclear what writer-director Srinivas Bhashyam wanted to show in this sleazy film. Love Khichdi is anything but a cute love story. But the weakest link in this whole enterprise is our leading man, completely miscast in this role. He tries to be funny but falls terribly short. He doesn't even look like the 26-year-old character that he's playing. He looks much older.Saurabh Shukla is probably the saving grace of this tasteless comedy. But he's still not enough for you to make the trip to watch Love Khichdi.

Director K Murali Mohan Rao has helmed several interesting films in the past, but what's this? Sure, DADDY COOL has a few entertaining moments, like the one when Rajpal Yadav reveals the secret [that Sharat Saxena was gay and Rajpal and he were lovers], but the remaining sub-plots fail to cut ice. Adding multiple sub-plots is fine as long as each sub-plot has something fascinating to say, but that's missing here. Even the end is so bizarre, with members of this detached family suddenly professing love for one another.

Starring some of Bollywood's most reliable funny men, Daddy Cool is endurable upto the interval. Half way through the film you feel it's like any other mundane comedy that's okay while it lasts. But the quality of houmour goes horribly down hill with every passing minute in the second half. What works as a sex comedy in one languge, needn't be equally funny in another. This movie is totally uncool.

Welcome to the crazy, madcap world of QUICK GUN MURUGAN. In this film, the hero and villain are at loggerheads. The fight is between vegetarian and non-vegetarian [meals]. Here, the villain wants to make the best dosa in town and kidnaps women who have the perfect recipe for making delicious dosas. QUICK GUN MURUGAN is not the stereotypical movie, but it borrows from all stereotypical movies that made Indian cinema so distinct from rest of the world. The best part is, QUICK GUN MURUGAN is innovative. One sentence verdict? Try this dosa... it's delicious!

You've seen all of it before. There's a slim chance this film might not have been a complete write-off if the acting was a little inspired. But what are the chances of that?Indifferently directed by a filmmaker who thinks fancy South African locales and glossy production values can make up for the absence of a sensible script, this movie is a challenge to sit through.Sexist and offensive in portions, but plain dumb for the most part, Life Partner can be safely missed. I'm going with one out of five and a thumbs-down.Do yourself a favour and find a better way to spend your two hundred bucks.

It's loud. It's over the top. It has Genelia forcing you to reach out for earplugs, ever so often. And yet it's easy timepass.Credit it to the comic timing of Govinda who manages to make slapstick seem funny, despite his guest appearance kind of role.Or credit it to a mere peppering of some really funny sequences, specially a cameo from Jagdeep who steals the show with mere grunts and half-sentences. Actually speaking, Fardeen and Tusshar too manage to hook your attention with their exuberance.Intermittently light and breezy, Life Partner makes for weekend viewing.

LIFE PARTNER isn't innovative or ground-breaking, but it's interesting and entertaining. One may assume that it's a nonsensical comedy, but it isn't. Instead, it's a 'family film' [a popular term for socials/paarivaarik films within the industry]. It gives you a sneak peak into the lives of two couples -- one, who believes in love marriage and the other, who believes in arranged marriage. LIFE PARTNER entertains, makes you laugh [at even silly jokes] and keeps you hooked for most parts of the film. It's only the climax that acts as a spoilsport. To sum up, LIFE PARTNER carries no buzz and also the baggage of zilch expectations. But this film springs a pleasant surprise. You leave the auditorium with a smile, not a smirk!

Under normal circumstances, this would seem like a no-nonsense film about genuine issues. But in Jaffrey's human zoo, it's impossible to grasp anything without a pinch of salt. For one, characters don't react. They scream. Correction, shriek. And all that ear-splitting humour gets jarring after a while. Secondly, Life Partner successfully establishes the crisis of the newly-weds but ends up sorting things between them in a hopelessly shoddy and unconvincing fashion, resorting to hare-brained twists and ridiculous logic.

It's fairly easy to write off a film like this. The plot is another predictable attempt at recreating the success of No Entry. And quite frankly most of the jokes are very silly. But there is still something, which prevents the movie from falling apart. The production values are tacky and music is nothing to hum about. Even the climax is predictable. Yet Life Partner, is something you can watch with your family. It's far from smart, but trust me a lot of people out there are going to find it too damn funny.

Genelia’s irksome act irritates beyond the boundaries of her character as her nagging gets on your nerves. Her dialogue delivery no more sounds cute, as she cuts out each word from her lines and individually stresses on them. Fardeen Khan looks literally harrowed. Prachi Desai gets into the idiot box family drama mode. A topless Tushar Kapoor is clearly avoidable. Amrita Rao and item girl do not suit in the same line. Govinda exudes immense screen presence despite having less screen time. Anupam Kher is repetitive while Darshan Zariwala hams.Keep your partner away from this and life will be happier.

Kaminey Movie Review

Vishal Bharadwaj's Kaminey is a film you'll either love or passionately despise. It's an unpredictable crime drama that combines violence and dark humor in a manner that's reminiscent of the films of Quentin Tarantino, Guy Ritchie and the Coen Brothers. And yet Kaminey is so original and inventive in the manner in which it takes Bollywood's favorite formula - twin brothers - and turns it on its head. With unchoreographed action scenes and dances, and long portions with no background score at all, it's a wildly imaginative, original offering from a fearless filmmaker who doesn't insult your intelligence. Kaminey boasts the best performance you will see by an ensemble cast in a long time, and that includes even the bit players. As Charlie would say: It's a MUFT-WATCH.

Kaminey is a smart and balsy film that brings Hollywood to Bollywood, reminiscent of the adventurism of Quentin Tarantino's action thrillers which catapult the viewer into the dark, violent world of crime and criminals, leaving you no time to blink or breathe easy. More importantly, Kaminey is the first film which also credits its viewers with some intelligence. It demands your unbridled attention from the word GO and allows you to sit back only at your own peril. It teases you with its smartness and constantly challenges you to keep pace with the breathless tenor of the drama that unfolds through fast cuts, dizzy hand-held camera angles and a dark, brooding ambience. Watching Kaminey is like sitting on the edge of a volcano which can explode any time. And explode it does!

Now Bhardwaj picks up characters that we have witnessed on the Hindi screen before, but executes it like Tarantino and Guy Ritchie do. He creates a film that's so different from movies we've witnessed thus far. Let's say, KAMINEY is bold, stark, funny and unpredictable and that's what works in its favour. Okay, we've seen Shahid pitching in a sincere act in his earlier films, but KAMINEY should catapult him to superstardom. His double role in KAMINEY is exemplary. I wish to add that KAMINEY is not the usual masala film. Sure, it's a well-made film, but there's no spoon feeding here. One has to be attentive, very attentive to grasp the goings-on and also the twists in the tale. To cut it short, KAMINEY is a film with an attitude. Like it or leave it, but you'd never be able to ignore it. Word from the wise: Go for this hatke experience!

Once in a particularly blue moon, comes a film that makes you wolf-whistle. One that then ties you to the edge of your seat and forcibly pins you there and pounces on you, eventually leaving you sitting in the dark, drained and grinning and more satisfied than a film has any business leaving you. This, ladies and gentlemen, is that kind of ride.So delicious is the movie's gradual unravelling that I refuse outright to let you in on the plot itself -- an enthralling tale of drugs, deceit, dingbats and dead-ringers -- because you need to discover this on your own.The result is startlingly clever, an innovative film with genuine surprises. Kaminey is the kind of film whose success we ought all pray for, because it'll prove smart cinema works.

On second thoughts the narrative of Kaminey dominated by gang-war and drug mafia doesn’t sound absolutely innovative. The story-telling involves a multitude of characters, none of them being conventionally introduced or established. You are expected to acclimatize with each of them on your own and learn their conflicts, as the story progresses promptly. But Vishal Bharwadwaj applies a complete different language of cinema to make the film look fascinating. The second half tends to stretch with too many twists in the plot to reach a customary climax. Otherwise Kaminey is long, dark and handsome.

Vishal Bhardwaj’s Kaminey is a one-of-a-kind experience. Vishal Bhardwaj deserves full credit for making a film that has no parallel in Bollywood. There have been attempts to make smart, crime thrillers in the past - But Kaminey achieves a balance between packaging and experimentation. Kaminey is a film that expects you to be attentive. Even though you might need a breather once the lights come on, it certainly is unlike anything that's come out in a long, long time.

Kaminey is one of Vishal Bhardwaj's finest works to date. Apart from excelling as the director, it is his writing that makes this one of the best edge-of-the-seat thrillers in a long longtime. The movie has emotions, drama, tragedy, suspense, thrill and a lot more. Not to be forgotten its outstanding music composition, dominated by the Dhan Teh Nan track. To sum up, Kaminey is a potential blockbuster. Vishal Bhardwaj has lined himself up for some serious awards this coming year. Also, with KAMINEY, he has given Shahid Kapur his best role till date. I dare say it will be a long time, if ever, before Shahid gets to display himself as a complete actor again. There's magic in the film, which hooks you from the beginning. The editing is razor sharp, the drama is top class, the performances super duper and the background score 'with it'.If it is not going over the top, KAMINEY can be bracketed as the SHOLAY of our times, Sweety Bhope is the Basanti while Shahid's Guddu and Charlie as Jai and Veeru.Statutory warning: If you watch it once, you will want to watch it again!

At a running time of one hour and forty minutes, Ramgopal Varma's Agyaat is an interesting experiment that doesn't overstay its welcome.Agyaat makes no pretences about the fact that it's only goal is to rattle you, and it achieves that several times with some chilling moments that make you jump out of your seat. It's not great cinema, it isn't intended to be; Agyaat is an event picture which delivers a few good thrills. With a tighter first-half and a slicker pace and minus those two redundant item songs, this might have been a more compelling ride.

Now this one's a big disappointment from a director who has already proved his forte with the horror genre with goosebump films like Bhoot and Raat.Even Darna Mana Hai had its moments, as did his earlier foray into the danger-infested forest, Jungle. But Agyaat is completely cold meat. It neither thrills nor chills with its repetitive running-for-life sequences and its absolutely infuriating end which offers no explanation whatsoever for the scurrying and screaming. In fact, all that the director does is to rely on his camera and audio track to rustle up the horror.Yes, this one's completely devoid of the fear factor. Wonder if part two will scare you?

AGYAAT works for several factors. The dense jungle blows your mind away, the sound design and the background score are easily at par with international films, the camera movement is spectacular and of course, RGV's execution of the material is just right for a film of this genre. But, at the same time, the culmination to the film is debatable. Of course, one would be doing gross injustice to the film by revealing the end, but it's bound to have its share of advocates and adversaries. It might bring a smile on your face or a smirk, but the fact remains that the reactions would be in extremes.

Ram Gopal Varma's thriller is seriously, decidedly, indisputably funny -- in the ridiculous dialogues recycled by the characters (seems the writers ran out of words), in the forced, schmaltzy romantic interludes, and even the way almost all the characters in this ensemble cast are hurriedly bumped off or turn suicidal so that the lead pair can carry on with their lives. It makes the television horror shows look classier, more substantial.

From the very outset this supposed spook-fest goes miserably wrong with an item number in the title credits. RGV disregards his screenplay with as much nonchalance and this forest film simply goes to the dogs.At the outset, one might want to acknowledge Ram Gopal Varma for choosing an unconventional plot. But through its annoying execution, Agyaat only invites ridicule. The director merely conceives half a dozen death sequences in the forest and absolutely ignores to unveil the evil forces behind it.

s it a ghost? Is it a snake? No, it is Agyaat-The Unknown. Looks like the writers took the title too seriously. Because everything about this movie, from the plot to purpose leaves you guessing. Agyaat lacks the spooky fun of Phoonk or constant eeriness of Jungle. What Agyaat might always be remembered for is its bizarre climax. Only Varma can go ahead with something like this. Agyaat is less scary and more absurd. If the sequel he promised (read threatened) ever gets made, we wish him luck. For now, Agyaat lacks the chills and thrills to make an impact.

Love Aaj Kal, which is in fact a standard Bollywood love story disguised as a realistic take on modern love.Love Aaj Kal is not a bad film. It's got its heart in the right place, but its other parts seem scattered. The screenplay, for one, is far from foolproof. The film in the end is ordinary stuff, watchable but never memorable like the director's previous efforts, the far superior "Socha Na Tha" and "Jab We Met". I'm going with two out of five and a n average rating for Love Aaj Kal. It's like that plump mango you bite into only to discover it's not ripe yet. Watch it nevertheless for the sharp dialogue and some clever humor.

The subject matter is novel, never attempted before, but the material, the characters [Saif and Deepika especially] as also its execution is targeted at the youth in big cities mainly. As they say in filmi lingo, this one's a hardcore multiplex movie. The film captivates in bits and spurts in the initial portions. Partly because the writing is so different. But the writing breaks new grounds in the second hour. It's in this hour that the film grips you completely, when the fragmented pieces are put together and a mesmeric picture emerges.Final word? LOVE AAJ KAL makes you fall in love with love all over again. Makes you value your loved ones all the more. This film is special!

you aren't disappointed at all. Because, this time, the effervescence and adrenalin rush of impetuous love, resonant in the romance of Geet and Aditya in Jab We Met, has been replaced by a more serious and realistic take on modern love. The film literally holds up a mirror to the commitment phobia of the young, successful professionals who keep changing their status from `committed' to `single' on the sundry social networking sites. Much to the chagrin of their dads and mums who fail to understand this emotional dilettantism and keep badgering them with love-of-a-lifetime cliches. The secret of director Imtiaz Ali's film making lies basically in three primordial areas. Instead of relying heavily on a three-hour long script, he chooses to concentrate on his dialogues: crisp, concise and completely in sync with aaj ka lingo.

Imtiaz Ali, one of the most promising filmmakers in the country, is sadly down with blockbusteritis.Love Aaj Kal is watchable, but feels heavily compromised. It's a romantic drama that would have worked wonderfully if it hadn't tried to be funny in the first half, and doesn't work in the second because the laughs dry up. We have poignant moments interrupted by touches of lets-tickle-the-audience humour, as if India can't take a drama straight up. And the songs, something Imtiaz earlier managed to weave in so seamlessly into his narratives, now blankly interrupt the proceedings with much bling. Ali's dialogue is still his biggest strength.Love Aaj Kal is a harmless, watchable film -- sad, because it could have been truly special. It has its moments in the first half, while the second half is an over-melodramatic drag.

Now here's the thing about action films. Most of them aren't particularly smart, but you're willing to overlook that if they make for a dramatic and thrilling experience. The problem with Luck, which opens at cinemas this weekend, is that it's neither smart nor spectacular.Luck is often unintentionally hilarious for the clunky dialogue, and particularly for the ridiculous climax scene which is unquestionably the silliest you've seen in years.I'm going with one out of five for director Soham Shah's Luck. Indeed only a stroke of good fortune could save this one.

Luck is so heavy on style, it seems to completely forget about the script. So much so, the film is like one extended reality show, where not even one participant is able to strike an emotional connect with the viewer. It's paper thin plot which serves as an adhesive for a string of action sequences which again are not too high on adrenalin. Other than the opening sequence, which features Sanjay Dutt in a life-threatening blindfold race, most of the other episodes hardly bring out the fear factor. Sorry Soham, but the sharks do look like rubber and the climax so much like a pale copy of Sholay's train sequence.Watch it for some momentary thrills and chills.

What is it with Bollywood and adventure? Why can’t we do thrillers in which our hearts leap into our mouths, and stay there? ‘Luck’, which is based entirely on the premise of it brimming over with edge-of-the-seat action, tips us over a couple of times-- at best. The rest is spent building up to a climax which isn’t. ‘Luck’ is many more troughs than peaks.

It really doesn't matter whether this week's new release Luck is a copy or not. We don't make too many great action films in Bollywood. So even if the plot is generously 'inspired', Bollywood fans are usually starved of a good high-octane stunt fest. To cut the long story short, Luck is straight out of the '80s. Medical miracles, clashing heroes, sacrificing junior artistes and even an attempted rape... it's all there! But even if the makers made this film for the masses; the execution is just too lethargic and unconvincing. Luck is a lame reality show playing on celluloid.

If you're into thrillers or have been missing one, LUCK holds the key. Be rest assured, you haven't watched such thrills since DHOOM 2. But the film slips due its ineffectual writing. It gyrates from engrossing to bas-theek-hain towards the second hour.LUCK may not be high on story, but the concept and at least four stylised thrilling sequences make a big difference. On the whole, LUCK rides on star power, adrenaline-pumping thrills and a concept that's novel for the Indian screens. Despite some loose ends, these three factors primarily would ensure a Lucky journey at the box-office.

It could have been 'decent timepass,' as us indulgent towards Bollywood are likely to label tripe, but this ridiculous script devoid of both logic and drama leads to a really boring piece of trash. It's like watching a really slow episode of the Indian Fear Factor, one where Akshay Kumar -- or the girls -- forgot to show up. The shots are tacky, the thrills leave you cold, and this film could have been half its length but a sadistic use of slow-motion and flashback doubles your misery.A word to the director: Mr Shah, despite much hype you gave us Kaal. And now there's Luck, with too many loopholes to even point at. A suggestion, then, for your new industry nickname: Ho-hum Shah. Thanks for the yawns -- and for the single funniest climax in ages. No, really.

The opening and ending action sequences by Allan Amin are convincingly choreographed but the intermediate stunts appear too artificial. The banter between characters in confrontational scenes looks too rehearsed. Each one has a dramatized mugged-up response to complement the opponent’s remarks. A one-line premise that's reluctantly stretched into an unconvincing screenplay, Jashnn belongs to that pantheon of bad '80s melodramas where characters say horrible things to each other and then spend the rest of the movie regretting it.Because the zero rating is reserved for objectionable films, I'm going with a generous one out of five for Jashnn. The film's title means celebration. I can safely say that was wishful thinking on the part of its makers

Jashnn isn't just a story with a lot of heart. It's told with in a heartwarming way too, with moments that touch you with their naked pain. The film scores mostly in the brother-sister relationship and the romantic track between Adhyayan and Anjana does pale into insignificance before it. Shahana pitches in another power-packed performance after Rock On, even as Humayun Saeed makes an interesting debut as the cold and brutal biz honcho. Ironically, the audio track isn't as strong as the usual Bhatt Inc score which always boasts of chartbusters. Watch it for its vintage appeal: it reminds you of the unadulterated emotional interplay of Mahesh Bhatt's cinema, not so long ago. Come back, Mahesh, it's been a long sabbatical.

You can't deny the fact that JASHNN brings back memories of the immensely likable ROCK ON!!, Like ROCK ON!!, JASHNN also looks at relationships, but the relationships here are poles apart. But JASHNN is not without its share of hiccups. The romantic track could've been as intense as the volatile ones. Also, it gets long drawn towards the second hour and robs the film of its sheen to an extent. But the climax more than compensates for the blemishes. Thankfully! On the whole, JASHNN is a moving tale with three USPs - its music, the emotional quotient and the performances by its four actors. Despite some loose ends, it should slowly and steadily win over cinegoers based on these three factors.

Jashnn – The Music Within is supposedly about melodic aspirations but the music angle is concealed deep within the prime plot, which is basically a romance drama. The good part is that the drama is dealt deftly which redeems for the lack of musical development. Adhyayan Suman is raw but promises immense potential. Shahana Goswami, as the unapologetic mistress, comes up with an impressive natural act. Sadly her character is short-lived in the second half. Humayun Saeed gives a refreshingly restrained performance in his negative role and a talent to look forward to. Anjana Sukhani is passable.

A thrilling cocktail of gloomy mystery and comical growing pains, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is easily the best of the six films in the series so far, even if it's the one in which very little happens in terms of actual plot development and crucial incidents.Complaints against the plot and against the omission of several incidents from the book feel redundant when you look the film as a whole. For followers of the franchise, this is potent stuff and a very worthy companion piece to the rest. I'm going with two thumbs up and four out of five for Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince. Directed remarkably by David Yates, this is exactly what fans have been waiting for.

The film scores heavily in terms of its scintillating cinematography (Bruno Delbonnel), its edgy atmospherics and its straight-from-the-book histrionics. The actors truly live-out the characters, so meticulously created by JK Rowling. The high point of the film are it's fresh and juicy moments of adolescent madness, where our young wizards try to cope with the turbulence of normal teenage years. Almost poignant! Keep the series up to date. Don't give this a miss, all you teens and adult-teens.

David Yates’ sixth instalment is probably the darkest of the Potter films so far as suspense builds up right from the beginning and keeps you engaged throughout. Harry’s mind-reading abilities, suspense that is build up and then partially unravelled towards the end forces one to wait and watch for will Harry be able to destroy Voldemort. (The mighty enemy does not make an appearance in this one).'Harry Potter and the Half Blood prince’ has romance, intrigue, suspense, action – indeed a magical experience. A must watch!

If you can't imagine a big budget summer film without seemingly endless adrenaline pumping scenes, the sixth Harry Potter film, being unleashed this week in about 10,000 theatres worldwide, could come as a surprise. Even those who are familiar with the novel on which the new film Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is based may find it a bit surprising that the film has far less spectacular scenes and magical feats than the previous chapters.

The film's climax is not particularly gripping but it makes the viewers look forward to film based on the last book in the series. In fact, there will be two movies coming out of the single Rowling tome, one in the year 2010 and one a year later.

Half-Blood Prince also tells explores the relationship between Potter and Albus Dumbledore. The headmaster now looks at Potter – now in his late teens – more as a friend and an accomplice but also reminds him from time to time that he is no ordinary boy.

I must confess throughout the movie, the parts I was actually looking for were those involving Harry and Ginny. Yes, the two do kiss – though not in full public view as in the book but in the privacy of the (ahem) Room of Requirement.

At two hours and 33 minutes though, Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince can seem tad too long. But then again can we ever get enough of the young wizard and his friends? Probably not...
